A kid was feared dead while another suffered leg fracture following a stampede at the Samson Siasia Stadium venue of the distribution of economic empowerment items and commodities to indigenes of Bayelsa State by the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan.

According to eyewitnesses, the kids were trampled on in a stampede caused by armed security men including men of the Joint Task Force code named Operation Pulo Shield.

The stampede, it was learnt, occurred at about 6.30pm Thursday at the jam-packed stadium in the aftermath of shooting of tear gas to wage the surging crowd of women and youths waiting to collect the commodities slated for distribution.

The programme was organized by the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on MDGs in collaboration with the Bayelsa State Government through the MDGs conditional grant scheme and office of the First Lady.
