With just 30 days to the commencement of the primary elections, the crisis in the South-west chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a turn for the worse yesterday as 13 members of the South-west caretaker zonal executives sacked their chairman, Chief Ishola Filani.

Addressing journalists after their marathon executive meeting, which had in attendance the Secretary, Chief Pegba Otemolu, Auditor, Adekola Rasaq, Treasurer, Lanre Orimoloye, Financial Secretary, Banji Obasanmi, Publicity Secretary, Waheed Lawal, Women leader, Wunmi Euba, Youth Leader, Bolaji Jeje and three of the ex-officio members, they accused Filani of running a ‘one man show administration’ since February 19, 2013 when the executive came on board.

In his stead, the members unanimously agreed on the treasurer, Lanre Orimoloye as the new acting chairman.

He resumed official duties the moment his name was announced to the news men.
They cited relevant sections of PDP’s constitution to back their decision to pass vote of no confidence on Filani and further affirmed it with another section 27(3&4) of the party’s constitution which deals on the quorum of members at the meeting.

Having satisfied the above condition with regards to majority of members who attended and took the decision jointly, the presiding chairman, Tunde Olowofoyeku, who read their seven-point communiqué, said there was no going back on the chairman’s removal.

Olowofoyeku said members from across the six states in the zone were in attendance at the meeting, stressing that they took the decision in order to ensure that all the problems in the zone were resolved before the primary elections coming up next month.

The zonal executive committee congratulated Ekiti people, the PDP and its governor-elect, Ayo Fayose, on the victory of the party in the June 24 governorship election.

It similarly commended and congratulated Senator Iyiola Omisore on the significant success recorded in Osun State, just as it expressed its readiness to support the party to reclaim their mandate at tribunal.

They appointed Hon. Lanre Orimoloye, the zonal treasurer to act as Chairman and Ayo Olowoofoyeku, the zonal ex-officio from Osun State to act as zonal treasurer respectively.
All the 13 members signed the communique.
