The Sokoto State Governor, Alhaji Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko has charged All Progressive Congress(APC) members to protect their votes against ''dictatorial tendencies'' of the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP ) saying the party had already failed Nigerians.
Wamako who was speaking in Bogoro during the formal distribution of about 2,269 empowerment items by Hon Yakubu Dogara, member representing Tafawa Balewa, Dass and Bogoro Federal constituency in Bauchi State yesterday said that Nigerians were worse off than they were four years ago before the present administration came into office.
Wamakko who was represented by the former Minister of Sports, Alhaji Inuwa Abdulkadir, warned the electorates to protect their votes in the forthcoming general elections because according to him, "PDP is well known for rigging that is the reason I’m advising the electorate to come out enmass during the forthcoming polls and cast their votes and ensure that the votes count in order to forestall any chances of rigging by other parties as APC is not known for rigging’’.
The Governor also urged Nigerians, irrespective of their ethnic, religious and political affiliations to unite and effect the kind of change they desired, pointing out that "We need not to be told of the injustice of the PDP. If we are not united, we will have problems during elections."
Wamakko who was the Chairman of the occasion maintained that, "looking for positions shouldn't cause problem among us otherwise we will be laughed at."
In his remark, the Speaker of the House of the Representatives, Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal commended Yakubu for the giant strides and commitment to the upliftment of the welfare of the people of his constituency.
He said that he was in Tafawa Balewa because of the late Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa and his relationship with Hon Yakubu Dogara, describing him as a credible representative of not only his constituency, Bauchi State but Nigeria at large; pointing out that if his constituents failed to re-elect him, they would be doing great disservice to themselves.
According to him, "I came here not as APC member but as Speaker of the House and I came with our APC and PDP members to show solidarity to one of our reliable member whom we rely on for wise counsel."
The speaker challenged Nigerians to embrace peace irrespective of whatever kind of differences that existed between them, saying "Without peace we cannot any reasonable achievement. We must do everything possible to strengthen the bond of friendship that existed long between our forefathers" .
Also speaking, Hon Dogara Yakubu expressed his appreciation to all those who attended his 2014 constituency empowerment project, and charged the beneficiaries of the empowerment items distributed to make judicious use of it towards socio-economic development of the area and the state.
