The Forum of Spokespersons of Security and Response Agencies (FOSSRA) on August 6, 2014, held its monthly meeting and advocacy engagements in Lagos.
At that event, the Forum had a beart-to-heart interaction with members of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), with the overall aim of striking a partnership with the Guild in fight against insurgency and other forms of crime facing the country at the moment.

Now, the partnership is in the area of information sharing, dissemination, etc, between both bodies. The Wednesday’s meeting was my second at the Forum’s engagements in Lagos. I recall that the police and the DSS were quite active during the first contact. Ogar was at her best in giving insights in some nutty issues raised by editors at the session. Mba, too was equally in high spirit; he had helped secure freedom for Ebere Nwabara, being held then by the Abia State police command.
But at the last interface, all but Mba and Ogar, were present. No convincing excuse was given for their absence, either. Chairman of the Forum, Maj-Gen. Chris Olukolade, a gentleman officer and a man of high integrity, was very careful in his choice of words as he attempted to explain off their absence, when asked by one of the participants. It was obvious from the way he had struggled to pick his words that the group could be having some challenges within its rank at the moment. If truly, there are cracks within the Forum, then the collective resolve of members of the intelligence community to share information, intelligence, expertise, etc, in the ongoing counter-insurgency campaign in parts of the country may suffer some setback. The NSA can do the nation a great service by stepping in at this point to bring all back on board.

FOSSRA is a body under the auspices of Office of National Security Adviser that coordinates public information activities of armed forces, security and response agencies. Its members are spokespersons of military, security and response agencies as well as special paramilitary outfits in Nigeria. They include Defence Headquarters, Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Navy, Nigeria Police, State Security Service, Office of National Security Adviser, National Intelligence Agency, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Commission, Nigeria Prisons Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Customs Service, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), National Emergency Management Agencies (NEMA) and Federal Fire Service, among others.
