Unknown gunmen suspected to be the dreaded Boko Haram sect members are reported to have stormed Garkida, in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State, killing several people in the attack on Sunday, July 27, 2014.
The village is currently under heavy gunfire as one of the residents of the area who is too shaken to provide his name told Premium Times saying: “We are right now locked up in our houses and all we can hear is heavy gunfire which appears to come from all directions.”
Meanwhile, as a result of the attacks, the village head of Zar community, a retired wing commander, Dauda Daniel, is still missing, while some relatives of Daniel have expressed worries that he may have been abducted by the gunmen, according to Thisday.
Many residents have fled the community and gone into hiding as the whereabouts of hundreds of others is yet to be known as a result of the attack.
However, the number of casualties is not certain yet.
