Niger State Government has commenced the recruitment of 618 nomadic teachers to teach in the 274 nomadic schools, spread across the state.

According to the state Governor, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu, who made this known at the opening ceremony for the ‘Training of Teachers in Nomadic Schools on Implementation of the Nomadic Education Curriculum and Textual Materials’ for the North Central zone in Minna yesterday  stated that the teachers were needed to meet the dearth of teachers in the nomadic schools.

He also stated that the teachers would be given special allowances to motivate them to accept their postings to the rural areas.

Aliyu, who spoke through the state Commissioner for Education, Mallam Danladi Abdulhameed, said considering the importance the state attaches to education, the state government appointed a Director General, 10 Senior Advisers, and 25 Special Assistants, who would ensure that the nomads are carried along in the scheme of things.

He also stated that aside from that, he had directed the Ministry of Education to set up additional schools for the children of the pastorals, close to their grazing land.

Earlier, the Executive Secretary, National Commission for Nomadic Education (NCNE), Prof. Rashid Adewunmi, said the decision to hold the workshop  was borne out of the desire of the commission to build the capacity of teachers aimed at addressing the outcry against the poor learning outcomes associated with low capacity teachers.

He revealed that the training programme took place in all the six selected centres of the nation with 613 teachers selected to benefit from it, noting that more teachers would also benefit as programme would be a continuous process.

The executive secretary further stated that the workshop being organised by the commission in conjunction with the National Teachers Institute (NTI) under scores the importance attached to the training aimed at attaining positive learning outcomes.
He then urged the participants to take part actively in the programme by taking advantage of the high caliber resource persons invited to under take the training.

Speaking also, the Director General, NTI, Kaduna told the gathering that the Institute and the Commission decided to train the teachers in the six geo-political zones.
