The operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) of the Nigeria Police yesterday paraded a suspected political thug, one Omoniyi Ajewole, alongside his boss, Odeyemi Itunnu aka Gomina, who claimed to  be the executive assistant to the Ekiti State Governor, in connection with car robbery.

The purported chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was arrested by the police led by the Commissioner of Police FSARS, Chris Ezike, a Deputy Commissioner of Police, for allegedly arming his political thug, who in turn, alongside his gang, used the guns to snatch cars in different parts of the country.

Parading the suspects, the Police Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, said investigation began after the suspects robbed a professor at the University of Ile Ife, Osun State.

He said: “Investigation began on June 27, 2013, after the victim was robbed of his two vehicles and other valuables. The matter was later transferred to FSARS and they swung into action.
But in a swift  reaction, Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State denied ever knowing any such person, let none being his Executive Assistant.

Fayemi who expressed shock at the claim discussed it as a political story, exclaiming, ‘ whose aide? What a joke? I have no aide so called.

But Mba insisted that the statement was voluntarily made by the suspect even though according to Mba the suspect admitted that he had never worked closely with Governor Fayemi.”
