The National Coordinator of the South East Zone PDP Gender Coalition Initiative, Chibuzo Martins Opara has called on Nigerians not to despair in the face of threats by terrorists aimed at destabilising the country.
Reacting to the recent bomb blast in Abuja and some other parts of the country, Opara stated that the activities of terrorists rather than divide the country will strengthen the bond of unity.
Opara who is also the spokesperson of the group lamented that women and children have been the worst victims of the destructive activities of terrorists in Nigeria, and called on all Nigerians to support President Goodluck Jonathan in his effort to restore normalcy in our security system.
Nigeria, he said, cannot give in to those who were hell bent in fomenting trouble and threatening her peace and unity, even as he called all Nigerians to unite with one voice in condemning and confronting the monster called terrorism in all its ramifications.
"We cannot fold our arms and believe erroneously that this war is for government alone, we all have a collective responsibility to protect our nation" he said.
On the issue of negotiating with the terrorists, Opara stated that while government should not be afraid to negotiate, it should not negotiate out of fear. He called on the insurgents to make themselves available if they were truly ready for peaceful settlement, after all "we are all Nigerians".
