Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has advised the 29 indigenes of the state, out of the 486 travellers from the North, who were arrested on transit in Abia State by security agents two weeks ago on the allegation that were members of the Boko Haram sect to continue to pursue their legitimate businesses anywhere they find themselves in the country.

Kwankwaso gave the advice in Kano yesterday when the 29 freed indigenes visited him at the Government House following their release from detention in Abia State.

The advice came on a day Kwankwaso also advocated the need for Muslims and Christians to come together and pray for the end of the insurgency in the country.

The governor was speaking at a one day Muslim/Christian Prayer for peace in the country hosted by the state government and facilitated by the state Hisbah Board and the General Yakubu Gowon Nigeria Prays Forum, held at the Africa House, Kano yesterday.

Kwankwaso argued that there was no law in the country that restricts any citizen from traveling and doing business lawfully anywhere in the nation, lamenting that what the security agents did to the travelers was a clear violation of their fundamental human right.

“Upon hearing that some Northerners were apprehended in that state (Abia), even though we were unaware that Kano indigenes were among the captives then, we began discussion with the authorities concerned to secure their release.

“However, we later thought that it would be impossible to have that number of people going on business without having anybody from Kano. This is the reason why we sent a powerful delegation to discuss with them for your unconditional release or referral of the matter to court,” he said.

The governor, who expressed appreciation God for making the captives to return home safely, urged them to take what happened to them as predestined.

Earlier, one of the released travelers, Mudasir Aliyu Kumbosto revealed that they were severely tortured and painfully maltreated while in detention at the barracks in Abia State and denied access to the Kano State government delegation that came to see them.

He, however, thanked the governor for his effort and for making time to see them return home safely and for giving each of them N20, 000 as transport to their respective communities in the state.

According to Kwankwaso, the terrorists attacks do not discriminate against Christians or Muslims, adding that initially insurgents concentrated in the North-east, but as time went on they expanded their attacks to the North-west and North-central, now their activities is now traced to South-west, particularly Lagos State.

“Kano State government will continue to work hard with our religious leaders, both Muslims and Christians, because we belief as a government that anybody residing in the state whether a Muslim or Christian or even a pagan, men or women, young or old is suppose to be protected by the government.”

“Without security no body can dream of going to the church or mosque, no body can go to the market and our country cannot develop. That is why as leaders, we have to join hands and work together to ensure that the insecurity we are facing today was brought to an end,” the governor stated.

He then appealed to the former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (rtd), “as a father and a former Head of State you should please talk to everybody that you have opportunity to meet to be very serious on what is happening today, no body is happy.

“I appeal to you sir, to keep onpraying and talking to the relevant authorities to understand what is happing because there is even misunderstanding of the situation itself,” the governor lamented.

In his address, Gowon, who is the Chairman of Nigeria Prays Forum, appreciated the foresight of Kwankwaso in hosting the great event, which would surely bring unity and oneness among Nigerian.

He urged other 18 Northern states to emulate the vision of the Kano State governor by sponsoring a similar programme in their states, hoping that the coming together of Muslims and Christians in prayers would surely solve a lot of the problems bedeviling the nation.
