Adamawa State stakeholders and elders in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday endorsed the impeachment moves initiated by the state House of Assembly to oust Governor Murtala Nyako and his deputy, Bala Ngillari from office.

The stakeholders made the disclosure through a communiqué signed by Dr. Umar Ardo and made available to journalists after their meeting at the party’s secretariat in Yola to deliberate on the current impeachment moves against the governor and his deputy.

Prominent among the stakeholders at the meeting were Chief Joel Madaki, (state PDP chairman), Commodore Dan Suleiman (rtd), Ambassador Wilberforce Juta, (former governor of defunct Gongola State), Hajiya Zainab Maina, (Minister of Women affairs), Mr. Boni Haruna, (Minister of Youths Development), Senator Bello Tukur, Dr. Idi Hong, Alhaji Ali Mohammed, (Makaman Adamawa), Senator Andrawus Sawa, Dr. Ahmed Modibbo and 50 others in attendance within and outside the state.

In the communiqué, the stakeholders’ forum revealed that the current initiative and actions of the state legislators represent its position and the wishes of the overwhelming majority of the people of the state.

According to the PDP stakeholders, the impeachment of Nyako and his deputy represents the best solution to the political and governmental crisis rocking the state.

“That the entire members of the PDP in the state, including the executive committee members of its organs, members of its Board of Trustees, members of its National Executive Committee, its stakeholders and elders condemned these acts of gross misconduct on the part of the governor and his deputy and hence endorse the impeachment initiative and action of the lawmakers. “We members hereby commend the House of Assembly for this bold initiative and encourage them to continue the impeachment process to its logical conclusion,” PDP stakeholders said.

The stakeholders said the party in support of the lawmakers and called on the good people of Adamawa State to support the lawmakers in their bid to impeach Nyako and his deputy.

They also called on the judiciary to remain neutral and impartial in the impeachment saga and allow due process of constitutional provisions to take its full course without hindrance.

The forum also noted that because of the impunity of Governor Nyako’s administration, its virus had infected the judiciary system.

The forum resolved that because the Nyako/Ngillari administration has over the years brought Adamawa State to its knees politically, economically, infrastructurally, and security wise, there was need to oust the incumbent administration.

It noted that through its deliberate and misguided policies, the regime both exacerbated social and political tensions in the state by creating ethnic and religious distrust among groups and entrenched lawlessness, corruption, favoritism and dishonesty in governance to the point the people can no longer condone such a regime even for a single day if they can do something about it.

However, the forum said the impeachment issue is an internal affair and had warned non-indigenes of partisanship but refrain from meddling in what is solely an Adamawa State matter.

“We remain committed to the democratic principles of constitutionalism, rule of law, transparency, accountability and honesty in governance,” they said
However in a swift reaction to the communiqué, the spokesman to the governor, Ahmed Sajoh said that with the composition of the so-called stakeholders, the unseen hands in the impeachment saga has been exposed.
He noted that PDP is a party that does not spare its own by supporting the process in which the deputy governor Ngillari, who is suppose to be PDP leader in the state is also included in the impeachment saga.
