The newly-elected Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State, Alhaji Ibrahim Milgoma, yesterday said the former governor of the state, Attahiru Bafarawa, did not impose him on the party.

He said he was elected by the people based on his experience in running the affairs of the party in the state.

He also stated that there was no division in the party as being speculated by political opponents in the state.

Speaking with THISDAY in Sokoto yesterday, Milgoma stated that his emergence as the state chairman of the PDP was in tandem with the wishes of the members of the party in the state.

He maintained that the former governor had no cause to impose him or anybody on members of the party, as he was not looking for any position.
“As you are aware, I was the state chairman of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and also the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP). So, I am conversant with party politics and a grassroots politician.

“It is not true that Bafarawa imposed me on members of the party. It is the wish of our party members that prevailed at the state congress, that is why I emerged the chairman of the PDP in the state,” Milgoma averred.

He noted that the recent ward, local governments and state congresses conducted by the party in the state, was an indication that the PDP leadership was united.

According to him, there was no iota of truth that the PDP was divided into four camps in the state.

He said the PDP leadership had already resolved to shun undue struggle for positions and join hands together to build a formidable party ahead of 2015 polls.

The PDP leader promised to be fair and just to party members and carry all along in the scheme of things.

Milgoma added that the PDP would do whatever it takes to wrest power from the All Progressives Congress come 2015 and run a people-oriented government.

“This time around, we are battle ready and determined to ensure that PDP wins the 2015 election in the state,” he stated.
