A lawmaker representing Ikorodu Constituency I in the Lagos House of Assembly, Hon. Sanai Agunbiade, has asserted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has legitimate grounds to appeal the recent governorship election in Ekiti State.

Speaking to state house correspondents at the weekend, he said the ‘militarisation’ of the election intimidated voters into voting for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Ayo Fayose against the incumbent and candidate of the APC, Kayode Fayemi.
According to him, “The fact that there was no violence or that people did not fight does not mean that the election was fair. There are questions that are begging for answers. Why was the state so ‘militarised’? Did the constitution not make provision for only one policeman in each polling booth? Was the deployment of a large number of military and police personnel not meant to serve a purpose and favour one party?

“Is it not strange that PDP supposedly won in all the local governments, including that of the incumbent governor? Why was it that the chieftains of the APC were prevented from entering the state a day before the election? From what has happened, any good lawyer can infer that the results were most likely to be doctored.

“APC has made it position known that it would contest the elections at the election tribunal. If the party does not feel that it has legitimate grounds to do so, it would not embark on an exercise in futility,” he added.
