NIGERIA: Terror Kingpin Killed in Plateau Shoot Out

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has confirmed that  troops of the Nigerian Army killed a terrorist kingpin named, Mallam Hussaini, along the Jos-Bauchi Road, Plateau State.

According to the report from the official website of the DHQ, yesterday, the terrorist commander was gunned down in a duel between his group and a military convoy.

The report said that Hussaini and his gang attacked the military convoy, which was on an operational patrol in the area, but were repelled by the troops who also captured the operational vehicles and some Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), arms and ammunition from them.
According to the military news site, the late terrorist leader was billed to launch attacks on Jos when he was killed.

Part of the write up reads: “The terrorist gang had attacked a military convoy while on an operational patrol between Jos and Bauchi.

“At the end of the encounter, the Ford bus used by the terrorists was captured with eight primed Improvised Explosive Devices, rifles, pistols and about 70 rounds of ammunition".
It further explained that the dead terror suspect led an attack on the headquarters of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Abuja in November 2002.

Hussaini was also reported that have carried out another attack on a military convoy along the Lokoja-Abuja Road where two soldiers were killed in January.
In addition, the forces recovered a vehicle from some insurgents who abandoned it and fled into Niger Republic.

"The troops also recovered uniforms of security organisations, as well as protective gears, boots and other goods which they had stolen from various locations towards Nigeria – Niger border", the report said.

In a related development, the report stated that officers of the Nigerian Prison Service (NPS) arrested and handed over two men, Sani Sule and Idris Rume, who were caught loitering around the Aba Prisons to troops for further investigations.
