The Sokoto State chairmanship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP), Alhaji Abubakar Tambuwal, yesterday said the party in the state cannot win the 2015 governorship election on a divided platform.

He also urged the party leadership in the state to refrain from imposing candidates on the people, saying such would not augur well for the PDP ahead of 2015 polls.

Speaking during a chat with journalists in Sokoto, Tambuwal stated that the PDP would not be able to wrest power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) on a divided platform in the state.

Tambuwal, who was a former chairman of the party in the state, maintained that there was the urgent need for the members of the party to be united in order to achieve the desired objectives.

"As you are aware, we have the herculean task of a serious battle with the ruling APC in the 2015 election in the state.

"So, unity among the PDP leaders in the state has become necessary otherwise it cannot squarely face the challenges ahead in the state and at the national level," Tambuwal said.

The PDP chieftain therefore cautioned against imposition of candidates by the PDP leadership in the state, saying this would spell doom for the party ahead of 2015.

"PDP is a law abiding party and believes in the culture of election. Therefore, there should be no imposition of candidates or forced consensus. The free choice of the people should be allowed to prevail," he advised.

He added that the party was really determined to diligently execute the campaigns for the forthcoming governorship elections in the state.
