Islamic Scholar Wants Delegates to Focus More on Peace

An Islamic scholar, Dr. Abdulkadir Oba Solagberu, at the weekend urged the committee on religion in the ongoing National Conference to dwell more on factors capable of restoring peace, unity and harmony among religious adherents in the country.

Solagberu, who is also the founder of Darul-Kitab Wa Sunnah College of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Ilorin, disclosed this in Ilorin over the weekend while speaking with journalists.

According to him, "The gesture would go a long way of assisting the nation to witness a new dawn in fostering peace among all the stakeholders in the country. "People must accommodate and tolerate one another irrespective of religious, cultural or political affinities. He noted that the terrorism challenge confronting Nigeria was borne out of lack of respect for one another in the neighbourhood, which further more to the larger society giving birth to all sorts of social menace such as abduction, armed robbery, assassination, bad governance, among others.
"It is our hope that the outcome of the ongoing constitutional conference will shed more light to the channels to follow towards getting things right in the nation," he added.

Solagberu however stated further that research had revealed that lack of social, ethical and moral values had contributed to the deterioration of social justice and denial of fundamental human right of the citizenry.
