This is as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Emeka Ihedioha lamented the demise of the ranking Senator as unfortunate and a reminder of the futility of life.
His body arrived Minna late Thursday night and was taken to the emir's palace in Minna on Friday at 10 am from his residence for the burial prayers after which his body was taken to the Muslim burial ground where it was buried.
The burial prayers was led by Chief Imam of Minna, Sheik Isa Fari which was attended by Governor, Mu'azu Babangida Aliyu of Niger State, former military President, General Ibrahim Babangida, traditional rulers, politicians from different parties and other symphatisers.
Eulogising the former legislator, General Babangida said his demise was a personal loss to him. Recalling that he knew Kuta from childhood, he described him as a real Nigerian who was so committed to "Project Nigeria".
"We have lost another committed Nigerian who devoted his life the development of the masses and the less privileged. He ensured that whatever he chose to do were well executed to the letter. We have lost a real Nigerian," Babangida lamented.
Former Minister of Information, Professor Jerry Gana said he has lost a political son and a former student.
"I am here to pay tribute to a rare gem, a true democrat. Senator Dahiru Kuta was my student. I taught him in Secondary School and in the University. When in 1983 I decided to go into politics, Dahiru was one of the few young men that joined me. I have lost a political son. May his soul rest in perfect peace," Gana prayed.
Earlier on Thursday night, members of the National Assembly led by Senator Mohammed Magoro were in Minna to condole with Governor Mu'azu Babangida Aliyu over the death of the Senator.
The leader of the team described the departed Senator as a hardworking and committed legislator, they prayed for the repose of the soul of the departed and called on the government and people of Niger state to take solace in Allah who gives and takes as He chooses.
They however called on the governor to ensure that the good work of the senator were perpetuated, adding that grieving alone would not help the state but continuity was what was expected in filling the vacuum Kuta left in the wake of his death.
Governor Aliyu told the entourage that Niger and indeed Nigeria will miss the late Kuta. According to him, “ Senator Kuta was a very patriotic and compassionate person. He was so humble even as a prince, he preferred to be called a Comrade. He participated fully in all his assignments and made his mark in every area of assignment he found himself.
“He would be missed not only by the people of Niger state but by his colleagues in the Senate. I must therefore condole you too as am aware the vacuum his death will cause would be tremendously felt in the hollow chambers physically and intellectually.”
Ihedioha who described the late Kuta as a worthy legislator of repute and a ranking senator, said his demise came to him as a shock and a reminder of the futility of life.
He prayed God to grant the family of the late senator the fortitude to bear the loss while extending his condolences to them as well as members of the senate and the entire National Assembly.
