NIGERIA: Committee Recommends Removal of Immunity Clause for Elected Officials

The members of the ongoing National Conference have recommended the removal of the immunity clause on all elected officials.
This was one of the recommendations of the Bola Shagaya-led Committee on Economy, Trade and Investment.

According to the delegates, who made this decision in a voice vote said, “there shall be no immunity for all elected government officials.”

The delegates also recommended that social rights should be justiciable, while rejecting the recommendation that there should be a special bank for farmers.

They also rejected that all contracts below 10 billion naira should be reserved for Nigerians. This is because most of the abandoned projects in the country are because of the Nigerians involvement.

It further recommended tax holidays for all publicly quoted companies and local textiles be exempted from Value Added Tax for five years, while recommending for an anti-thrust law to prevent monopoly.
