Kwankwaso in an interview with Premium Times yesterday, said the president was after his life and had ordered the withdrawal of half of his security details in a ploy to open him up to physical attacks.
“I have told my friends, and people of Kano, Nigerians and indeed the international community to hold Jonathan responsible for whatever happens to Kwankwaso, his family or even the people of Kano State,” the governor said.
He accused the president of igniting crisis in Kano State after a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, emerged the Emir of Kano Sunday.
The relationship between Jonathan and Kwankwaso, which for months had been all but warm, deteriorated in 2013 after the governor decamped from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Since then, both men have openly accused each other of corruption and ineptitude.
Sanusi’s emergence, Sunday, as emir of the powerful Kano emirate, revved up the squabble.
Kwankwaso said he had “credible information” the president instructed his supporters in Kano to unleash “mayhem” on the state.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner for Information, Dr. Danburam Abubakar Nuhu, yesterday dismissed the rumours making the rounds that the appointment of Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the Emir of Kano had been nullified
Addressing journalists in Kano, Nuhu called on the public to disregard the rumour and accept the emergence of Sanusi as the Emir of Kano in good fate, adding that it was the will of God.
He described the appointment of Sanusi as a not only well-deserved but the most suitable option when compared with the other three contenders.
The commissioner also described the new emir as man of integrity and prudence as proven in all the establishments he had worked throughout his professional career.
He added that the appointment of Sanusi followed due process, noting that all necessary consultations were made by the four kingmakers of the Emirate Council, following which the former Centl Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor emerged as the best option.
According to him, with the dynamism of today’s world, Sanusi was the most suitable to occupy the stool, coupled with additional advantage of his vastness in both western and Islamic education.
Nuhu expressed optimism that with Sanusi’s unique qualities, he had no doubt that he would pilot the affairs of the emirate council to an enviable level, just as he also hoped that Sanusi would in the near future surpass the achievements of his predecessor.
He solicited the cooperation, support, and prayers of the people of Kano to enable him record a remarkable success as the 14th Emir of Kano under the Fulani dynasty.
