President Goodluck  Jonathan yesterday appointed Professor Rufa’i Alkali as his new Special Adviser on Political Affairs.

The president had recently sacked Ahmed Gulak as his Special Adviser on Political Affairs.

Gulak had incurred the wrath of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Godswill Akpabio, when he single handedly inaugurated a support group for Jonathan's re-election in 2015 in the state without the input of the governor.
The governor protested to the president, and Gulak who was said to be offering low quality advice to the president, was relieved of his position.

Alkali, the Special Adviser to the president on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, tweeted, is a political scientist, and once served as National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Alkali was appointed Pro-Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Minna last year. He hails from Gombe State.

Jonathan  also appointed Hajia Baraka Sani as his Senior Special Assistant for Schools Agriculture Programme.
Hajia Sani was until recently, the Kano State Commissioner for Agriculture.
Both appointments take immediate effect.
