After it has suffered two postponements in the last two months, President Goodluck Jonathan will visit Ekiti State on Saturday to present the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag to its gubernatorial candidate in the June 21 governorship election, Mr. Ayo Fayose.
The president was to visit the state on April 26 but the visit was postponed due to lack of venue.

The party had accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state of denying it the use of the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium to host the president.

Again, on May 22, the visit could not hold due to the incident of bomb blast that rocked Jos, which claimed several lives.

According to a statement issued by the state Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Pastor Kola Oluwawole, President Jonathan would present the party’s flag to Fayose and flag off the campaign.
Oluwawole said the ceremony which is expected to begin at 10a.m., would hold at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado-Ekiti.

It stated further that the president would be accompanied by the Vice-President, Alhaji Namadi Sambo; PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu; Senate President, Senator David Mark; Speaker, House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Waziri Tambuwal; Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, Chief Tony Anenih; Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Jeleel Adesiyan; Minister State for the Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro and other PDP big wigs.

Oluwawole said a water-tight security measure had been put in place by the security agencies to make the ceremony hitch-free.

He appealed to the leaders and members of the PDP and lovers of Ayo Fayose in the state to troop out en mass to welcome the president.

Meanwhile, the governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Hon Opeyemi Bamidele, yesterday unveiled his manifesto, where he promised to engender unprecedented economic growth and development in all facets if elected governor in the June 21 election.

Addressing the supporters, Bamidele, who said why he wanted to take over from the incumbent governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, maintained that he knew he could do much more better than the governor.

According to him, the fact that the incumbent Fayemi has done his best, however, boasted that he has the requisite experience to surpass the level of achievement feats already recorded by the present administration if given the chance.
At the official presentation of his manifesto in Ado-Ekiti, Bamidele promised to improve on the lives of the people through Integrated and commercial agriculture, robust Infrastructure that would provide jobs for over 400,000 unemployed youths, regular water supply, low cost housing units, human capital development and other pivotal areas of the economy.

He said: “I concede to the fact that Governor Fayemi has done his best for Ekiti people. But the best one can do under any circumstance is his best.
So, based on the extent of his understanding, experience
and exposure, I want to say he has done his best.

“But the reason why I am in this race to take over from Governor Fayemi in the June 21 election is simply because I know I can do much better.

“Today marks a turning point in the history of this State. Our, he LP’s manifesto, which involves massive agriculture, quality and affordable education,  water supply to rural and urban centres and robust infrastructure will be implemented in a manner that will generate jobs for our youths.

“I call this manifesto a blueprint for Ekiti growth and development because I  know  that this is a contract with Ekiti people and we will do our best to wipe away poverty  and raise the bar of governance to the admiration of all,” Bamidele said.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Elders’ Forum in LP, Professor Joseph Oluwasanmi, said the people of the state must prevent those without dignity and honour from assuming the governorship seat in the forthcoming election.

The former Commissioner for Health under Otunba Niyi Adebayo-led government, stated that “Ekiti is known to be land of honour and dignity and we have to live by this.
“We should not allow those who cannot spell the names of their parties correctly or those who don’t worth being elected chairmen and are parading themselves as governorship candidates from taking over the reign of leadership in our land.”
