The Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has urged workers in the state to ignore rumours making the rounds through text messages and the social media that he is planning to sack workers and cancel payment of leave bonus after his re-election.
Fayemi gave the advice in Ado-Ekiti at the weekend during a quarterly interactive forum held with civil servants in the state.

The governor said the masterminds of the text messages often take Ekiti people as fools who could be tossed around with lies and baseless claims, describing them as enemies of Ekiti’s progress.
He said it was ridiculous that some could peddle lies that government was planning to cancel leave bonus which is part of the emolument of the workers as well as retrench workers.

The governor stressed that no worker had been sacked since his government came on board except those who retired or ghost workers.

Fayemi added that government would not have responded to the rumours because “this is a season of lies “as the state is approaching election period but decided to set the records straight, so that unsuspecting citizens would not buy into the lies.

“Even within the civil service, they found the text message ridiculous and having puerile claims but this is the season of lies, and you should expect as many lies as possible. I get these lies myself on my phone.

“Some have decided that they have no other way to conduct themselves in this election period than to engage in blatant lies. Frankly, some of the lies are not worthy of response from government because we will like to think that the Ekiti people are intelligent enough and are not as gullible as these enemies of progress want them to appear. “There is nothing farther from the truth than for anyone to claim that the state government wants to abolish leave bonus. Leave bonus is part of the conditions of employment, part of the salary package. It is not just the monthly salary, it is also your ability to obtain car loan, take housing loan and leave bonus and benefit from other benefits that are associated with the job that government offers you.

Also, ahead of the June 21 governorship election in state, indigenes of the state in Lagos have been urged to give the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Mr. Ayo Fayose, their maximum supports.

The charge was given by the Ekiti State Development Union (ESDU) in Lagos, directing its members to move to their respective Wards in the state, to mobilise support for the PDP candidate, adding that: “Ekiti will go bankrupt if it is ruled for another four years by the All Progressives Congress (APC) government.

According to a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti at the weekend, and signed by ESDU Chairman, Pastor Yemi Olayinka and Secretary, Mr. Foluso Oguntoyinbo, the group said it was an undeniable fact that the state witnessed more infrastructural developments during the three and half years of Fayose as governor.

“No one can deny the fact that it was Fayose who turned Ado-Ekiti to the modern capital city that it is today. All the dualised roads in Ado-Ekiti, except Old Garrage – Ojumose and Atikankan – Baptist Church were done by the Fayose administration.

“Interestingly, the same people who waged war against Fayose, throwing the state into instability are the ones in government now and Ekiti people can see how they have almost run the state aground with incessant borrowings.

“They are the ones insulting our graduates with N10,000 per month jobs and calling it employments creation when they can never pray that their own children should get such jobs?

“They are the ones spending borrowed funds on non-income generating projects including the new government house, the Civic Centre and State Pavilion, plunging the state into huge debt.

“Therefore, it is our duty to rescue our state from these pillagers, whose only interest is their pockets and not the betterment of the lives of the downtrodden people of the state. Our best bet is the PDP, and we are giving our total support to the party and Fayose, its candidate,” the group said.

Meanwhile, the governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Ekiti State, Hon. Opeyemi  Bamide, has berated Fayemi for his inability to bring portable drinking water and water for other domestic uses to the doorsteps of residents of the state after over three years in office.

Bamidele disclosed this in Ikun Oba Ekiti in Ekiti East Local Government Area, where he held political meetings with people of the community, attributing Fayemi’s failure in this regards to poor planning, implementation and administrative incompetence.
He condemned the development despite existence of three major dams in Ekiti now, some of which functioned last under the old Ondo state government.

He listed the inherited dams to include those of Egbe, Ureje, Ero and Itapaji, which are spread across the three senatorial districts of the state.

Bamidele cited the instance of the re-awarded multi-million naira Ero Dam project given to Biwater Limited by the Fayemi administration, calling it a monumental fraud.
“The current administration in the last three and half years could not give water to the Ekiti people due to corruption, incompetence and maladministration.

“Ekiti has four major dams including other ones spread across the state, yet  Fayemi can not give water to the people despite several millions of naira pumped into these projects.

“My government when elected shall serve you people, it shall give you water to drink and other basic needs. Any government that fails to give the people water to drink is a failure as you have seen since 2010 October,” he said.
