It was jubilation galore as the people of Ngor Okpala trooped out en masse to accord the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Emeka Ihedioha,  an overwhelming reception as he consulted stakeholders and leaders of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on his governorship ambition ahead of the party primaries later in the year.

In what seemed like a carnival typical of a homecoming, Ihedioha was overwhelmed by the show of love, support and solidarity.

Ihedioha, who was in Ngor Okpala in continuation of his state-wide consultation tour of the 27 local government areas, thanked the people for their support, love, solidarity and prayers since he won the election to represent the constituency.

He said: “Ngor Okpala is a home for me. A place where I have received overwhelming and consistent support to represent our federal constituency in the House and through that support and rare wisdom, our people are today reaping bountifully, the dividends of democracy with over 52 verifiable federal government projects sited in Ngor Okpala alone.

“By the grace of God and your support, I have attained a position that has added tremendous value to our lives, and with your support, we will do more when we occupy Douglas House because I have the experience and a track record of achievement.

The Deputy Speaker, whose speech was intermittently interrupted by solidarity songs and cheers from the jubilant crowd, assured the people that he would continue to champion the cause of their development, adding that the power substation at Umuekwune, Jetty/Mini Wharf at Imo River, Okpala; Okpala-Igwurita road linking Imo State and Rivers State would boost the economy of the area; including several water projects, school blocks, hospitals, appointments and empowerments.

He advised them to remain with PDP as the only platform that will continue to champion the development of the area.

At the consultation, which had in attendance all the heavyweights of Ngor Okpala politics, at the Nguru country home of Okenze S.I. Obinna, leader of the party in Ngor Okpala, Obinna described Ihedioha as a man of integrity and track record of achievements who has all it takes to dislodge the All Progressives Congress (APC) and move Imo State to a greater height.

He called on the people to continue to canvass support for the Deputy Speaker, assuring that Ngor Okpala would support him till the ambition is realised.

The highlight of the visit was the decoration of the Deputy Speaker whose mother hails from the area with a wrapper and an umbrella signifying guidance and protection and unanimous endorsement by the people.
