OWERRI — The Catholic Archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province, His Grace, Dr. Anthony J. V. Obinna, has expressed serious concern over the growing tension, strife, war, bloodshed and abductions going on in the country today.

Archbishop Obinna, who made his feelings known, while addressing the press in Owerri, also blamed the sad happenings on mistrust, mutual suspicion, lack of friendship and good neighbourliness.
“The walls which divide us can be broken down only if we are prepared to listen and learn from one another, Obinna reasoned.”

He expressed regret that Nigerians have failed to recognise and treat one another as fellow sons and daughters of God.
“The consequence is continuous tension, strife, war, abductions, bloodshed. God is definitely not happy about this and we must learn to love and appreciate ourselves in all circumstances,” Obinna pleaded.

He urged Nigerians to rise above primordial, ethnic, religious, political, cult and class divides that sow and whip up unnecessary hatred and violence.
Addressing the just celebrated Democracy Day, Archbishop Obinna urged Nigerians to re-evaluate the type of democracy the nation celebrates, given the current state of the nation.

The cleric noted that Boko Haram menace and the continued captivity of young school children, the Chibok girls, directly held Nigeria and its Democracy Day in captivity.
“What kind of people are we Nigerians? Are we enemies or fellow humans and fellow citizens? What kind of democracy is ours, demonic or demophilic?” Obinna queried.
