Ahead of next year’s general election, Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano State and his Adamawa State counterpart, Murtala Nyako, have begun moves on how to stop President Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from victory at the polls.

To achieve the objective, the two politicians held a marathon meeting last night in Yola to strategise on how to win the majority of northern votes for the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC.

However, the aircraft conveying Governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State, could not land at the Yola International Airport, due to bad weather. He was, however, said to have shared his views with the other governors on the phone.

Vanguard learnt that the meeting, which was at the instance of the Kano governor, was to find ways and means of repositioning APC in the north to defeat PDP.

A source at the meeting said it stretched late into the night, and also deliberated on attempt by some lawmakers in the Adamawa State House of Assembly to move against Governor Nyako and cautioned against such move.

The source said contrary to the impression that the governors were in the state to intervene in the face-off between the lawmakers and Nyako, the governors actually came to Yola to work for the overall interest of their party.

Although the details of their deliberations were not made public, it was learnt that the governors used the platform to map out plans on how best to make APC and its manifestoes readily accepted by the majority of the electorate in the north.
