The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Zamfara, yesterday said the commission had issued permanent voter cards in 11 Local Government Areas in the state.

INEC’s spokesman in the state, Malam Garba Galadima, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gusau. Galadima said fresh registration would be done in Gusau, Gumi and Zurmi Local Government Areas on May 28.

He said majority of the polling units in Gusau, Gumi and Zurmi had problem of multiple registration. “During the last registration exercise in 2011, many people registered more than once while others’ finger-prints could not be seen on the computer screen,” he said.

He said those problems led to the cancellation of the exercise in those areas. Galadima, however, said a few units in the other 11 Local Governments also experienced the same problem but it was not as bad as in Gusau, Gumi and Zurmi.

“In Zurmi out of 187 polling units, only six polling units are able to issue permanent voter card,” he said.

He advised those that would not be able to collect their permanent voter cards at the end of the exercise today (May 25) to go to their Local Government Secretariat and collect them.
