Pandemonium broke out yesterday at the Kano State Government Secretariat over a bomb scare.

The complex accommodates the state House of Assembly, high court and ministries.
The police bomb squad was called to the scene to defuse the suspected bomb inside a Volkswagen Golf car abandoned at the Audu Bako Secretariat.

An eyewitness, Ismail Adamu, a journalist, said: “I was just entering the office in our ministry when a policeman entered the office and ordered us to immediately leave the area because of the suspected bomb.

“I lost control when I heard the word, bomb, because my belief was  that I was going to die even before leaving the premises. I accelerated my car and saw many cars involve in head-on collision because of the bomb scare.”

Another civil servant who prefered anonymity, said: “All my colleagues in the civil service who were at the secretariat were seen running for safety, while all the junior and senior officers were directed by the policemen to leave the area to allow the bomb detectives to find out what was inside the car abandoned in the premises.”

The state police spokesman, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Musa Magaji Majia, confirmed the bomb scare, but said: “The bomb detectives discovered that there was no bomb inside the vehicle.”

Majia said the bomb experts discovered only an identity card of the car owner in the vehicle.
He added that the car was towed to the state command and expressed appreciation to the public for their cooperation to report any suspicious object to the police.
