The Hausa community and the people of Orashi region in Rivers State, have declared their support for the glamour by Ogoni Ethnic Nationality to produce the governor of the state come 2015.

Leader of Hausa community in Eleme Local Government Area, Alhaji Ahmed Tijani, and the President, Orashi Ethnic Nationality Council (OENC), Mr. Kingsley Frank, disclosed this during the inauguration of the Eleme Local Government Area  chapter of the Ogoni Democratic Movement (ODM), at Eleme, near Port Harcourt.

“On behalf of the Hausa community from the 19 Northern states and Abuja, we give our total support for the emergence of an Ogoni as the next governor of Rivers State. We will follow ODM to the end. Whatever your programme is, inform our office and we will mobilise 100 per cent,” Tijani said

On his part, OENC President, Kingsley Frank, described the "call by Ogoni to produce a successor to Governor Amaechi as noble, saying allowing an Ogoni to emerge as governor in 2015 will serve as compensation for the sacrifices they made to bring the Niger Delta region to the international scene, which resulted in the killing of Ken Saro-Wiwa and others.

He said: “In 1999, in order to compensate Yorubas over June 12 issue and the death of Chief MKO Abiola, all political parties in Nigeria fielded Yoruba presidential candidates, leading to the emergence of Obasanjo as president. There is the need to compensate the people of Ogoni for the sacrifices they made, including death of Saro-Wiwa and others, thereby bringing Niger Delta to international scene.”

In his address, President-General of ODM, Godwin Bazari, said it will take the people of Ogoni another 20 years to demand for governorship, should they fail to work towards actualizing it now, regretting that the Eleme axis of the East-West road had remained unattended to, because it is on Ogoni soil.

Bazari warned governorship aspirants from other ethnic nationalities in the state to stop trooping into Ogoni to be adopted, as the people have sons and daughters who are capable and qualified to govern the state.
He said: “We have the potentials, the qualities that are needed to vie for the office of the governor. We have to let these people coming for adoption to know that we are more focused than they thought”.

Earlier, Chairman, Eleme Local Government Area, Oji Ngofa, represented by his Supervisor for Works, Abusemi Ngei, assured that the government and people of Eleme will do all they can to ensure that an Ogoni takes over from Amaechi in 2015.

In their separate goodwill messages, the facilitator of the Ogoni Generation Next Project (OGNP), Kadilo Kabari, and the leader, Rivers South-East Women Forum (RSEWF), Alice Chu, declared their support for the ODM mission and vision, adding that it is the turn of Ogoni to produce the next governor of Rivers State.

The leadership of ODM, earlier paid a courtesy visit on the traditional ruler of Eleme Kingdom, King Samuel Ejire, who mandated them to ensure they bring the people of Ogoni, made up of Eleme, Khana, Gokana, and Tai local government areas of Rivers State together toward actualizing the governorship project.
