This is coming barely 48 hours after gunmen also suspected to be Fulani herdsmen killed four people set over 30 houses ablaze at Dinya Village in Gassol Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, ASP Joseph Kwaji, who confirmed the incident to journalists in Jalingo, said the gunmen attacked the village at about 2a.m yesterday and set several houses ablaze.
He further disclosed that the five people killed in the attack were burnt beyond recognition while two others were seriously injured and are presently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
According to him, “We got signals of an attack in the early hours of yesterday by suspected herdsmen in Kungana area of Bali local government. Five people were burnt beyond recognition and two others are seriously injured while they set many house on fire,” he stated.
Kwaji however revealed that the state police command had dispatched officers and men to the area to restore normalcy and maintain law and order just as he promised that the command was not leaving any stone unturned to contain the unwarranted attacks and threat to peace in the state.
The PPRO further revealed that 13 empty shells of AK 47, four cartridges and an assault rifle were recovered from the scene of Sunday’s attack on Dinya Village in Gassol Local Government Area adding that a detachment of riot police isalready in the village to restore peace to the area.
No fewer than 70 people have so far been killed by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen in the several parts of the state even after the visit of leaders of Miyyeti Allah Cattle Breeders Association to the state with the DIG Zumoukor as part of the peace initiative brokered by the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar.
