Chibok: Chinese Group Visits Nigeria, Restates Commitment to Rescue Efforts

The Chinese government Monday restated its commitment towards assisting Nigeria to secure the release of the abducted schoolgirls from Government Girls’ Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State.
 
The Military Naval and Air Attaché, Embassy of People's Republic of China to Nigeria, Senior Colonel Kang Hang Li, made the disclosure during the visit to the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Sanmi Alade, at the command headquarters in Apapa, Lagos.
 
Although he did not delve into the details of the help China plans to render to rescue the Chibok girls because of the sensitivity of the matter at hand, he restated his country's commitment to assisting Nigeria solve the myriad problems of terrorism.
 
He said: "At this moment, I cannot release more details about this cooperation but be assured that we are doing the best we can.
 
"We regret the abduction of the Chibok girls but note that my country will do everything within its power to assist Nigeria resolve the problems of Boko Haram and the abduction of the girls."
 
He also revealed that the People’s Liberation Army Naval Task Group would be deploying key Chinese Combat vessel to Nigeria next week to participate in a diplomatic visit to the country.
 
The Chinese frigate, he revealed, was being deployed from Syria where they just finished an exercise assisting the Syrian government in the destruction of chemical weapons found in their arsenal.
He said apart from Nigeria, the frigate would be visiting Tunisia, Cote D’Ivoire, Senegal, Angola, South Africa and Namibia.
 
In response, Rear Admiral Alade said Nigeria and Chinese military cooperation had increased within the last two years, especially with the building of a war ship from China.
 
He said the vessel christened NNS Centenary,  is expected in Nigeria in July while another vessel which would be built at the Nigerian Navy Ship Yard in Port Harcourt by the Chinese Ship Building Company  had been initiated.
