Governor Idris Wada of Kogi State has warned the people of the oil rich Ibaji Local Government Area of the state to be law-abiding and not to use violence against the people of the neigbouring Anambra State over the ownership of the disputed oil wells between the two states. Wada gave the warning at the weekend in the local government when he visited the area to inaugurate some state, local government projects and to thank them for their support for his administration over the past two years.
He stressed that the state government was doing everything possible within its power to ensure that the issue was resolved in favour of the state.
According to the governor, “out of the seven points to be determined by the National Boundary Commission (NBC), six had be completed.
He said very soon, the last one would be determined.
“What I need from you all (Ibaji people) is to cooperate with the officials of the NBC, we need to be peaceful and prayerful; we must not engaged in violence. I believe the issue of the disputed oil well will be resolved in our favour at the end of the day.”
Speaking on the importance of the visit, Wada explained that the visit would take him to all the 21 local government areas of the state in order to inform the people living at the grassroots the vision and mission of his administration and what government was doing to improve their welfare.
Similarly, he noted that the visit would afford him the opportunity to have first hand information about the challenges facing the people in the rural areas and how best to solve their problems without delay.
He then thanked the people of the local government area for giving him their support during his governorship election, promising that his administration would not fail in the provision of the much needed dividends of democracy to the area.
Earlier, in his remarks, the Chairman of the council, David Ogu, pledged the support, loyalty and commitment of the entire people of the local government area to the administration of Wada, stressing that his administration had continue to sustain peace in the area and also contained some pockets of communal disputes in the area in close collaboration with the law enforcement agencies.
Ogu then commended the governor for embarking on the rehabilitation of Idah-Onyedega road which was wash way during the 2012 flood disaster which destroyed property and farm lands worth million of naira in the area.
