Supporters of the former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Osun State, Senator Olasunkanmi Akinlabi Rasheed (SOAR), has faulted the slow pace of reconciliation in the party aftermath of the April 5 governorship primary election in the state.

Rising from a meeting of all the coordinators and supporters from across the state at the weekend at Odeomu, the SOAR Campaign Organisation expressed dissatisfaction that its complaints and appeal over the flawed ward congresses which led to the  outcome at the primary election were yet to be attended to by the PDP both at the federal and state levels.

Evidence that all is not well within the Osun State PDP family manifested during the unveiling of Senator Iyiola Omisore as the gubernatorial candidate in Osogbo last Thursday when the three other governorship aspirants who contested the primary election with him refused to show up at the event.

In a communique issued at the end of the meeting, the SOAR Campaign frowned on the strategy and the slow pace of reconciliation of the governorship aspirants and their supporters, noting that this may hamper the prospect of the party working together at full capacity to achieve victory at the August 9, governorship election.

Consequently, the SOAR group had listed and noted a few strategic options to be adopted towards the forthcoming governorship election if early resolutions of the issues stated are not reached quickly.
The SOAR group however, restated its commitment to remain in the PDP while pursuing the quests for justice, fairness and internal democracy within the party.

It noted that the reconciliation of all the governorship aspirants and their supporters with the party should have taken place before the "unveiling" of the governorship candidate, if truly the party was sincere with its vouched reconciliation move.
“We wish to observe that the impression being created inadvertently is that, with or without the other governorship aspirants and their supporters, the PDP would win the governorship election. This is a dangerous assumption that could only lead to dismal performance at the polls.

“We also wish to warn that the harassment and threats to discipline some members of the party and local executive committee members who did not support a particular aspirant in the primary election will be counter productive and may further divide the party down the line.”

Addressing the SOAR group at the meeting, Olasunkanmi appealed to his restive supporters to exercise some patience and allow a little more time for the party to resolve the issues raised amicably before taking any further steps.
He thanked them for their loyalty and support. He urged them to continue to be loyal PDP members while sustaining the meeting of the SOAR groups down to the ward level.

The meeting adjourned to meet soon to review developments and proffer a way forward while restating the group's support for President Goodluck Jonathan and Alhadji Adamu Muazu as national leaders of the party.
