Postponement of FEC Meeting

In a commendable gesture last week, politicians of all persuasions offered their commiserations to Vice President Namadi Sambo over the death of his younger brother, Captain Yusuf Sabo Sambo. Many even paid condolence visits.
In the traditional African society, people are taught to mourn with those who are mourning and rejoice with those who are rejoicing. Apparently in line with this African tradition, last week’s Federal Executive Council meeting was postponed.

While the postponement of the meeting over the death of the vice president’s brother may have been a well intended decision to express solidarity with the VP, it is obviously not a decision that will send a message to Nigerians and the world that the nation is conscious of the prevailing enormous challenges that demand urgent attention.
Also, many innocent citizens had died within the period in circumstances they never created and none of the deaths attracted a similar memorial from the Federal Government.
