BuhariFormer Head of State and a chieftain of All Progressives Congress, APC, Major General Muhammadu Buhari has denied supporting any candidate or group in Abia State congress of the party, insisting that all members were equal stakeholders.

This came as the party elected a 31- member state executive committee, with Mr. Fabian Okonkwo as the state chairman.

Buhari’s position was made known through a statement issued by the South East zonal spokesman of the party, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, who warned against dropping his name to gain advantage over others in the quest to control the party structure.

He said:  “Gen. Buhari wishes to dissociate himself from supporting any faction of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in any state of the federation, Abia State inclusive.
“I am not supporting any faction in Katsina, Kano or Kaduna states, not to talk of Abia. I regard all members of APC as my compatriots. We are equal joiners and owners of our great party.

“I want to debunk the rumour making the rounds that I, Gen. Buhari is backing the faction that is holding Abia State Congress today (Monday) in controversial circumstance in Abia State”.
Meanwhile, the party has elected a 31- member state executive committee with Mr. Fabian Okonkwo as state chairman.

While the new chairman is from Umunneochi in Abia North senatorial district, Mr. Smart Ebere from Aba South Council of Abia South zone emerged the state secretary. About 1,040 delegates participated in the congress held at the National War Museum, Umuahia.
