The Minister of State for Health, Dr. Halliru Alhassan, Friday said the Federal Government was committed to ensuring a healthy citizenry in the country.
Alhassan made the remark yesterday, at a reception organised in his honour by the Uthmanu Danfodio University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto.
He maintained that President Goodluck Jonathan was concerned with the health of Nigerians and sincerely committed in this direction.
"Jonathan is concerned with the health, welfare, comfort and security of Nigerians, irrespective of any religious, political or ethnic differences.
"A healthy society is a healthy nation and the President is really committed to having a healthy and productive nation," Alhassan said.
The Minister emphasised that Jonathan was fully committed to the successful implementation of the transformation agenda.
He commended the board and management of the hospital for the gesture, saying that, it would spur him to do more.
" As a former member of the board of the hospital and an alumnus, it will always be in my mind and this gesture will spur me to do more ," the Minister added.
In a remark, the Chief Medical Director of UDUTH, Dr. Yakubu Ahmed, commended President Jonathan for appointing Alhassan.
Ahmed described the Minister as humane, humble, a bridge builder and a peace maker.
Also speaking, the Sokoto State Head of Service, Alhaji Bature Shinkafi, advised the Minister to sustain his passion for the medical profession.
"You should be conscious of the challenges ahead as success is often associated with challenges. So, you should continue to be humble and accessible to all," Shinkafi said.
