The  new  Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Ebonyi State command, Mr. Waheed Popoola has assured that he would rid the State of Vandals, criminals and illegal petroleum dealers.
Popoola who gave the assurance while taking over from outgoing Commandant of the Corps in the state, Mrs. Ego Echendu at the Command Headquarters in Abakaliki, warned perpetrators of the various nefarious acts "to relocate from Ebonyi State as any suspect arrested would be decisively dealt with without hesitation".

The new Commandant called on the general public to volunteer useful information to the corps as the Command was fully prepared to synergise with other security agencies to ensure that incidence of crimes and criminality was stamped out from the state.

He said: "I want to warn vandals, criminals, illegal petroleum dealers to try as much as possible to relocate from the state. We are going to man various areas with different strategies so that Ebonyians can sleep with their two eyes closed as we synergise with other security agencies across the state.

"There is no other direction other than focusing on our core mandate as usual; officers and men of the corps should feel relaxed; the job of security is everybody's business and not that of an individual. There is need for the public to alert us and for us to be equally proactive; we need not wait until something happens before we tackle it”, he added.

The outgoing state Commandant who was recently transferred to Benin zonal Command of the Corps, Mrs. Echendu stated that during her stay in Ebonyi, the Command was able to clamp down on the activities of vandals, illegal peddlers of petroleum products, rapists and ensured adequate protection of lives and properties in the state.

"Our core mandate is to clampdown the activities of vandals of petroleum installations across the country and arrest of illegal petroleum dealers and the likes; we were able to make those who engage in such business to know that we are on ground; consequently, the activities of illegal peddlers of petroleum products have gone down but not totally eradicated", she said.

"It's been wonderful experience working with the officers and men of the command who I'm leaving behind; my message is that they should continue the good work; they should give to the incoming commandant all the support they had given to me; in all the achievements I can reckon with, I didn't do them because of my strength, I had their support before I was able to record such numerous achievements", she stressed.
