The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration is to collaborate with the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) to provide security at motor parks and public places in the territory.
He also visited Asokoro District Hospital where some of the survivors are receiving treatment “The park at the opposite side is going to be used temporarily pending the time when this place (park) will be handed over to us by the security agencies.
“Henceforth, our buses will be carrying detectors and devices that would detect explosive devices. “Of course it will be expensive; it is going to be a big challenge,’’ he said in a report by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He said between April and May, 100 buses would be imported from China.
The park was devoid of activities as it had been cordoned off. Security agencies, including personnel from the police anti-bomb squad and armed soldiers, were seen guarding the park.
During his visit to the hospital, the minister directed the FCT Secretary of Health and Human Services Secretariat, Dr. Ademola Onakomaiya, to immediately refer any serious case to referral or specialist hospitals, adding that the bills would be paid by the FCT Administration. Also speaking, Onakomaiya told reporters that "we had 54 confirmed dead bodies and 82 others receiving treatment."
He said out of the 124 injured victims that were admitted at various hospitals, 10 had been treated properly and discharged.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 100,000 personnel nationwide to ensure that Nigerians celebrate Easter in an atmosphere devoid of insecurity. NSCDC Commandant-General, Dr. Ade Abolurin, has therefore directed zonal and state commands of the corps to adequately send their personnel to strategic places such as federal highways, churches and black spots.
Abolurin in a statement by the corps' Director of Public Relations, Emma Okeh, yesterday said the directive was given in line with previous experiences when disgruntled members of the society capitalised on festivities to perpetrate their nefarious activities.
