APGA stakeholdersThe leadership disagreement in the All Progressives Grand Alliance has been resolved in favour of the incumbent National Chairman, Chief Maxi Okwu. The recent letter by the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Mohammed Bello Adoke dated 2nd April 2014, to Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim on the nomination of APGA delegates to the on-going national conference has resolved the dispute between Chief Maxi Okwu and Chief Victor Umeh on who is the authentic national Chairman of the party.
Chief Law Officer of the Federation Stated thus:

“I have examined the decision of the High Court of Anambra State in Suit No. A/126/2013-Onwudinjo V Maxi Okwu & Ors and that of the Court of Appeal in Appeal No. A/126/2013-Onwudinjo V Maxi Okwu & Ors which validated the National Convention of APGA held on 8th April, 2013. I have also examined the decision of the Federal High Court in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/563/2013- Chief Maxi Okwu & Ors V Chief Victor Umeh & ors which invalidated the position of Chief Victor Umeh as National Chairman of APGA”.

The implications of the above legal opinion are as follows: There is no more faction in APGA. There is no victor, no vanquished. All party structures should now collapse into the mainstream APGA under the able and capable leadership of Chief Okwu.
All APGA members irrespective of previous leanings should now come together under one indivisible platform or structure so that we will all join hands and move our great party forward.

All aspirants who intend to contest elective positions in the 2015 general election should take immediate step to integrate into the mainstream APGA led by Chief Okwu. All hands must be on deck now to ensure that the party wins more Governorship, Federal and State legislative seats in 2015 polls.

I congratulate the new Leader of APGA, Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, the National Chairman Chief Okwu, members of the National Working Committee, Board of Trustees and I urge all APGA members to close ranks and work harmonious to ensure that the party presents a viable platform that will meet the aspirations of our founding fathers.

I plead with all those who had attempted to convert APGA to their private ATM machine and those who believed that they have divine might and right to impose candidates, to do a re-think and to consider the interest of the generality of our people, our great party and our frail democracy so that we will not derail the on-going political process.

The rebranded APGA under Chief Okwu will no longer tolerate any act of political impunity, imposition of candidates and godfatherism. Dictatorship and fascism have become outdated and therefore must be resisted by all well-meaning people of this country. Our re-branded party is determined to comply with democratic ethos, ethics and tenets vital to improve APGA’s electoral fortunes in 2015.

APGA has confidence in the Judiciary as the last hope of all aggrieved people. The Judiciary has demonstrated exceptional courage in delivering justice. We have no doubt that justice will prevail in APGA matters at various Courts in Nigeria.

I strongly condemn the bomb blasts that killed dozens of people and wounded many others today at Nyanya near Abuja. It is outrageous. I commiserate with the families of the deceased and pray for speedy recovery for those injured in the blasts. I urge the perpetrators of this heinous crime to give peace a chance and use the opportunity provided by President Goodluck Jonathan to channel their grievances through their representatives at the on-going national conference.

Dr. Chike Obidigbo
APGA Governor in waiting.
