The police on Friday arraigned two hawkers at a Grade 1 Area Court in Kado, Abuja, for allegedly stealing a Nokia cell phone valued at N3,500.
The accused persons, Nasir Usman, 19, and Hussaini Awess, 21, are arraigned on a two- count charge of joint act and theft.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Simeon Ibrahim, told the court that on April 3 one Mr Zubairu Hassan of Mabushi lodged a report against the accused at the Utako police station.
He said that the accused persons stole a Nokia cell phone from the complainant while he was sleeping on a bench outside his house.
Ibrahim also said that the accused persons stole N5,000 from the complainant’s pocket.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 79 and 288 of the Penal Code.
If found guilty, they are liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term not less than three years each or with fine or both.
The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The presiding judge, Malam Mohammed Sadiq, admitted the accused persons on bail in the sum of N2,000 each and a surety each in like sum.
He adjourned the case until May 5, for further hearing.
