PORT HARCOURT— Rivers State may explode in 2015 if an upland person was elected to replace Governor Chibuike Amaechi, a chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state, Sir Opunabo Inko-Tariah, said in Port Harcourt, yesterday.

He said that natural justice demands that a riverine man be elected to replace Governor Amaechi, who is also from the same upland area as former governor, Peter Odili.
According to him, the upland area of the state would have been governor for 16 consecutive years by the time Governor Amaechi completes his tenure next year.

He explained that the politics of the state had naturally been divided along riverine and upland lines, adding that it was the reason the riverine area conceded power to Odili in 1999, when they had a firm grip on the political structure in the state.

He said: “Dr. Odili was elected governor in 1999. He is from the upland area. In 2007 Rotimi Amaechi was elected governor.
“At the end of his tenure, the upland area would have been governor for 16 years. There is natural dichotomy in Rivers State between upland and riverine. God made it so.”
