NIGERIA: Govt Vehicle Catches Fire at Abuja Airport

There was pandemonium Saturday at the International Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja as one of the security cars that came to pick an unnamed government official caught fire.

A source, who was at the terminal when the incident occurred  told  THISDAY that the fire which suddenly engulfed the car caught everyone unaware. While nobody sustained injury, he said the quick intervention of the combined team of fire fighters at the airport curtailed the mystery fire from affecting the three other security cars, airport workers and parked planes.

Asked about the cause of the fire, the source said: “This incident happened at exactly 7pm. Nobody can tell the cause of the fire.” He however ruled out any sabotage by the airport workers, who were on duty.
THISDAY’s attempt to speak with the General Manager, Communications of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), on the incident proved abortive, as his line was not connecting as at the time of filing this report.
