All is now set for the April 10 dinner of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) to raise N850million for its secretariat complex.
The event billed for the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, would have President Goodluck Jonathan as the distinguished guest of honour, and all the state governors as special guests.
A statement by the Chairman, Media /Partnership Committee, Mr. Chooks Oko, said Senator Bola Tinubu would be the special guest of honour at the event, which would be chaired by former Minister of Petroleum, Senator Prof. Jibril Aminu.
Former Ogun State Governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba, is expected todeliver the keynote address, while Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, would be the chief host.
Oko said already, many governors and captains of industry had indicated their willingness to be physically present at the ceremony.
Restating the need for eminent Nigerians and corporate organisations to support the project, the President of the Guild, Femi Adesina, said the proposed Editors Plaza would greatly improve the practice of journalism in the country as up-to-date facilities will be at the disposal of top professionals in the field to make them compete globally.
“With the planned Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centre and training and retraining packages planned, we can only compete with the best,” Adesina stressed.
The eight-floor plaza, the statement said, would house offices and training facilities that would be open to all journalists.
