The Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Thursday declared that his second term would be for the consolidation of his achievements between October 2010 and 2014.
He made the declaration during the official commencement of his second term bid at a ceremony held at the popular Olukayode Stadium, Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
No fewer than eight governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were in attendance.
Among them at the rally are Governors Rochas Okorocha (Imo); Alhaji Aliyu Wammako (Sokoto); Senator Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun); Senator Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo); Alhaji Murtala Nyako (Adamawa); Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar (Zamfara) and Peter Kishira (Kwara Deputy Governor), who represented Kwara State Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.
Fayemi pleaded with the people on the need to partner him in the consolidation of the numerous achievements of his administration.
The governor, who said his administration had laid very solid foundations for sustainable development, said: “But our task is far from over. We owe it a duty to Ekiti, to ourselves, our children and our children’s children, to consolidate our efforts in building the Ekiti which our children can be proud of, so that long after we are gone, posterity would be kind to our collective legacy.”
According to him, “So when the familiar enemies of our noble aspirations come to you, ask them what they have to offer. Let us be guided by history and the realisation that it is for good reason that the devil wasn’t given a second chance.
“Let us be reminded also, that when the people have the power, those with selfish interests would kick against the collective.”
In another development, the governorship aspirant on the platform of the Labour Party (LP) in Ekiti State, Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele, yesterday said, his mission as the next governor of the state is to rescue the state from bad governance and to unite all.
Bamidele, who spoke a mega rally held at Ido in Ido-Osi Local Government of the state, added that basic necessities of life will be provided and a new dawn will begin in the state,” he said.
Besides, the lawmaker, declared that if Fayemi knew that more than half of the cabinet members in the administration are backing his ambition, he would be shocked.
According to him, the commissioners and special advisers among others were not only supporting him, they were doing so financially.
The member of the House of Representatives said the decision of the people, who are still in the All Progressives Congress (APC), was because they believed in his cause and had seen the deception the current administration stood for.
On the claim by Fayemi that his second term bid was unstoppable, he said the governor would immediately withdraw from his second term struggle, if he knew the colossal support he (Bamidele) was garnering from members of his (Fayemi’s) cabinet.
He noted that as one of the leaders of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) and the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the parties that transformed to the APC, his contributions to the party and the welfare of members could not be rubbished.
