NIGERIA: Multi-million Dollar Modular Urea Plant for Akwa Ibom

A modular Urea Plant (fertiliser) worth hundreds of millions of US dollars would soon be built at Unyenge, Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, THISDAY has learnt.
 
When completed, the plant, which is a new technology will boasts of modular refinery, gas and urea refineries, according to a release by the Special Assistant, Media to the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Deacon Jackson Udom.
 
Chairman of Brila Energy Limited, Alhaji Jubril Rowaye, who revealed this when he paid a courtesy visit on Governor Godswill Akpabio in Uyo, clarified that the technology seeks to check non-commercialisation of gas from the oil field – stopping gas that cannot be commercialised and is not good for the environment.
 
Explaining further, Rowaye said the company is into a gas separation system, where the flared gas is taken and turn into Urea and the fertiliser realised from it and part of the gas can also be used for cooking.
 
He admitted that his company had contacted other companies globally to collaborate with them on this business venture whose cost is to be borne by his company which none acceded to their offer however applauded  Universal Energy for accepting the offer of Brila Energy Limited.
 
Rowaye said the company would work with Bureau of Labour and Productivity in the state to engage 100 indigenes in skilled labour and 200 in unskilled labour with support from some expatriates,
describing Akwa Ibom’s infrastructural development as remarkable, which has made them to choose the state to site the first plant and pledging the  company’s commitment to make the project work.
Responding, Governor Godswill Akpabio thanked the company for mooting the idea to site the project in the state, and promised them an enabling environment for profits.
 
Akpabio, who congratulated Septa Energy on the recent completion of the Gas Processing Plant at Esit Eket in the state, pledged to liaise with President Jonathan to launch the project soon, stressing that the state has put up endurable infrastructure for the establishment of industries for investors to come and invest in the state.
