The Lagos State Police Command Tuesday, said the police had begun an investigation into the alleged rape of a 15-year-old teenager by a yet-to-be identified rapist.
The rapist had robbed, raped and then abandoned the teenager, who was badly traumatised, to her fate at the Agege area of the state.
Confirming the incident, the state Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Damasus Ozoani, said investigation had commenced.
He said the police were treating the issue as a case of defilement and had launched a manhunt for the suspect, who would face the wrath of the law when arrested.
Eyewitness report said members of the O’dua People’s Congress (OPC) rescued the teenager beside a public toilet at Oko Oba, Agege, where the suspect had dumped her.
The victim was said to have been handed over to the Agege Police Divisional Headquarters, from where she was taken to Orile Agege General Hospital, Agege, for medical attention.
The police said the victim was on her way to Badagry from Osun State and had detoured to Agege because of the lateness of the hour, where she planned to sleep in front of a shopping complex.
It was gathered that few minutes after she lay down to sleep, the suspect came to her, tied a belt to her neck and covered her face with a cloth before proceeding to rape her four times.
While calling on the police and the state government to ensure the suspect is caught, she said they also stole from her and left her in the lurch.
