NIGERIA: APC, LP members defect to PDP in Ogun

ABEOKUTA — At least 2,650 members of the ruling All Progressives Congress and Labour Party in Ogun State have dumped their parties  for the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the state.
The defectors who were received by the state chairman of the party,  Bayo Dayo during  a reception, at the Ogun Waterside Local Government Secretariat of the party in Abigi,  described the PDP as the only party that could protect their interest.
While receiving the defectors, the party chairman in the state  said  that they had made the best decision in joining the PDP, adding that, “there shall be no discrimination of any sort against you. From today henceforth, we are all one and the same.”
The defectors were made up of 1,950 people from the Labour Party, LP, and APC while the remaining 700 were from former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s group who defied his directive to join the APC.
Meanwhile, the  leaders of the PDP in the  State have reiterated the need for them to win all elective positions in the state in the 2015 general elections.
The leaders, comprising former Deputy Governor Rafiu Ogunleye and his wife, Bose; Chairman, Organisation and Mobilisation Committee, Prince Buruji Kashamu; former acting Zonal Secretary, Chief ‘Pegba Otemolu; State Chairman, PDP, Mr. Adebayo Dayo among others bemoaned the condition  of civil servants, market men and women as well as the artisans under the APC government in the state.
