National Confab: Pensioners protest exclusion

ABUJA — Nigerian Union of Pensioners, NUP, has protested the alleged exclusion of retired civil servants on the list of delegates to participate in the forthcoming national conference.
The union in its protest letter to the Federal Government, through the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Anyim Pius Anyim, and signed by its National President, Dr. Abel Afolayan, questioned the rationale behind the nomination of six delegates from retired permanent secretaries to represent the entire retirees across the nation.
Afolayan in the protest letter, which was copied to the Head of Civil Service of the Federation and the President, Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, claimed that he was writing on behalf of over one million pensioners in Nigeria who were members of the union.
The letter read in part:  â€œWe consider it necessary to direct our complaint to the office of the SGF because it is the office charged with the responsibility of compiling the list of the delegates to the national conference.”
