Yenagoaâ€”Ahead of the 2015 general elections, Police authorities have assured that adequate security would be provided to ensure hitch-free polls.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 5, Hashiru Argungu, in Yenagoa, while addressing officers and men of the Bayelsa State Police Command during a tour of police formations under his command, said the force had commenced preparations towards providing adequate security for the elections.
According to him, the police will soon commence the sensitisation of its officers and rank and file on how they should conduct themselves before and during the elections.
Argungu said the Police have a duty under the Public Order Act and the Electoral Act, to provide security at political campaigns and rallies.
He enjoined policemen to ensure they studied the laws so as to be better enlightened on what roles they would play as political activities gear up ahead of the general elections.
He specifically lauded the state police boss and men of the command for reducing criminal activities to a minimal level.
â€œOur foot soldiers, who are the rank and files, are doing a good job and we appreciate them. Our zone and in particular, this command, you have worked wonderfully. We believe in your work and punctuality,â€ he said.
