The Independent Corrupt Practices Commission has turned down a N10 million donation from the Taraba State Acting Governor, Mr. Garba Umar
The donation was announced by the speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Josiah Sabo Kente on behalf of the Ag. Governor, after receiving an award from the foundation for transparency and accountability in Abuja yesterday.
According to the speaker: “The Acting Govenor has asked me to announce N10 million donation to the ICPC and the EFCC as our support for fighting corruption”
Immediately after, Kayode Oladele, Chief of Staff to the ICPC chairman, took the stage and said: “We appreciate the effort of the Acting Governor of Taraba State, but we would like to respectfully decline the donation. The only support we accept is for the Governors to continue to be transparent in their dealings”
At the seeming embarrassment at the ICPC’s statement, the speaker returned to the podium and instructed the anchor to announce that the N10 million earlier announced for ICPC is instead made to the foundation for transparency and accountability .
