The Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has dismissed as deceitful and ridiculous, claims by the senator representing Imo East senatorial district, Senator Chris Anyanwu, that she returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with 27 local government areas chairmen of the party and 17 members of its state working committee.
A statement in Owerri by party’s state Publicity Secretary, Mr. Tony Mgbeahuruike, explained that the senator whose formal exit from the party at the weekend generated wide jubilation within the APGA family, left the party with only her campaign structure from the nine local government areas in the Owerri zone and not the 27 local government areas party chairmen in the state.
The APGA chieftain who described the exit of the senator as a good riddance to bad rubbish, regretted her antecedence of leaving a party polarised and without, adding a single value it.
Mgbeahurike made it clear that as a serious -minded party which believes in the rule of law, APGA must insist on accuracy, devoid of deception.
He stated that it was wrong for Anyanwu to claim that she was compelled to quit the party due to intra-party crisis, stressing that the party is absolutely intact.
“APGA is the most democratic party in Nigeria today that believes in the rule of law and the party in the state is absolutely intact and remains the only Igbo political religion no matter whatever anybody says.
“Why should a senator indulge in a brazen falsehood and deceit?†he asked.
On whether the party would take legal action against the senator to reclaim its 2011 mandate given to her, Mgbeahuruike said: “We are law abiding party, we believe in the rule of law and her case would be handled in the same manner we handled that of Governor Rochas Okorocha even though her case is worse than that of Okorocha.â€
He regretted that the senator, until her exit, never knew where the party’s secretariat was in the state and in her ward, just as the party was never reflected in any of her programmes.
