President Goodluck Jonathan was last night in a closed door meeting with governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The meeting according to checks, was a prelude to Jonathanâ€™s preparation to declare for his second term bid.
The president had been consulting with traditional rulers, all in a bid to drum support for his second term ambition.
Jonathan had in the past week, met the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, Ooni of Ife, Okunade Sijuade, Alaafin of Oyo, Lamidi Adeyemi, Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu and Akran of Badagry, Aholu Menu- Toyi 1 as part of efforts to seek their royal blessings for the success of his administration and re-election bid.
The meeting, which held at the First Ladyâ€™s Conference Room, had in attendance most PDP governors.
While journalists were not allowed to cover the meeting, it was gathered that measures to put the party in a stronger position ahead of 2015 topped the agenda of the meeting.
The governors in attendance were Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Ibrahim Shehu Shema (Katsina), Liyel Imoke (Cross River), Martin Elechi (Ebonyi), Theodore Orji (Abia), Mukhtar Ramallan Yero (Kaduna), Gabriel Suswam (Benue), Garba Umar (Taraba), Muâ€™azu Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Jonah Jang (Plateau), Isa Yuguda (Bauchi), Saidu Nasamu Dakingari (Kebbi) and Emmanuel Uduaghan (Delta),
The Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, John Jonah and that of Adamawa, Bala James Ngilari, were also in attendance.
Also present were the Vice-President, Namadi Sambo, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Anyim Pius Anyim, PDP National Chairman, Ahmadu Muâ€™azu and his deputy, Uche Secondus.
The meeting, which started by 9:30p.m. was still ongoing at the time of filing this story.
